For those currently residing in the Southern Hemisphere, it's getting clearer and clearer that the warmer months are upon us. I can feel summer drawing closer with every ray of sun upon my back, with every trip I make to the beach, and with every step I take into my un-airconditioned apartment.
This welcome seasonal change also marks a time when we should be making little alterations to our beauty routines. It doesn't have to be anything dramatic and you don't have to fork out a million dollars, though. Here I'm going to share with you my top five faves, as well as their online stockists if applicable.
Before you put any makeup on, summer is prime time to get back to base-ics. Nobody likes their makeup melting or sliding off their face once they break a sweat, and this primer by Lancome makes the ultimate base to prevent this from happening. The light, silky formula glides onto your face with ease despite being oil-free (and therefore great for oily/combination skin types!). It locks foundation, concealer, powder and blush/bronzer on until you're ready to remove it yourself. And on top of all of this, the super concentrated formula means longevity and excellent value for money - I had my first bottle for seven months and I used it every day.
3. Nyx Green Concealer Stick
Fell asleep by the pool and woke up with a sunburnt nose? Silly season catching up with you and your blemish-prone skin? Scars or pigmentation? Fear not! Nyx's green concealer stick not only covers up your red marks, but neutralises them into obscurity too. Whilst it works slightly better on a normal/dry complexion, at a tiny $5.50 USD from www.nyxcosmetics.com, it's worth the test run.
4. Flora Eau Fraiche by Gucci
No beauty regime or outfit is 100% complete without a fragrance, and summer is the optimum time to dabble in a little perfume play. Most summer scents are light and floral, making them the most innocuous choice for those of you wanting to try out a new signature fragrance. One of my stand out favourites, though, is Flora by Gucci. Expertly blended cirtruses, rose, patchouli and sandalwood make this an olfactory delight that Sephora.com describes as 'Playful, Fruity and Floral'. They've hit the description and the price right on the head, stocking from 30mL
up to 75mL with prices ranging from $49 to $85
USD.
5. Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm
Where would I be without these babies this summer? Baby Lips by Maybelline New York are a collection of gimmicky - but nonetheless cute - lip balms that have recently dropped in Australia. With centella (a flowering plant used as a soothing agent in various facial products) as an active ingredient, Baby Lips are designed to give the wearer born again, deeply repaired and baby soft lips after four weeks. I've only been using mine for a week now, but with SPF 20 and a RRP of $3.95 AUD in chemists such as Priceline, I'm stocking up on these for protection against sunburn and chapped lips rather than a miracle cure. And heck, they look pretty.

2. Le Tan Foaming Mousse
Being a natural white shouldn't be any hindrance when it comes to getting into those swimmers and on the beach! Since we've wisely decided to ditch the tanning oils and sun reflectors of yore, sunless tanning has become a fantastic substitute. After much trial and error my firm favourite is the Le Tan foaming mousse in deep bronze. It smells pleasantly caramel-y, goes on slightly coloured so you can see where you've been and offers a much more even and longer lasting finish than a spray. A 200mL bottle can last me around three weeks if applied twice weekly and costs a mere $19 AUD. Unfortunately this is only available in chemists and supermarkets around Australia and New Zealand. For those of you across the pond, brands such as St Tropez, Model Co. and
Garnier make fantastic mousse tanner as well.3. Nyx Green Concealer Stick
